Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that the Optimus 3 is expected to begin production this summer. He revealed this latest development in an interview at the Abundance Summit.

Tesla has entered the final stage of Optimus 3 development. Elon Musk claims this robot is the world’s most advanced humanoid robot, unmatched by any other product. He stated that he has never seen any robot demonstration that rivals the Optimus 3.

Musk also outlined his expectations for the Optimus 3’s production ramp-up, stating that initial production will be very low, but mass production is expected by 2027. He mentioned that Optimus 3 production will begin this summer, but the initial pace will be slow, exhibiting a typical S-shaped production growth curve typical of manufacturing. Mass production is expected to begin around next summer.

Musk revealed that Tesla plans to rapidly iterate on the robot, potentially releasing a new Optimus design every year. He stated that the Optimus 4 design will be completed next year, aiming to release a completely new robot design annually.

Tesla has developed a broader plan to expand Optimus production beyond its initial production line. Musk previously stated that the Optimus 4 will be produced at the Texas Gigafactory, with significantly increased output. The initial production line for the robot is expected to be located at Tesla’s Fremont factory, where the company plans to build a production line with an annual capacity of up to 1 million robots. Larger-scale capacity expansion will take place at the Texas Gigafactory, potentially reaching a scale of 10 million robots per year in the future.

This means that Optimus 3 will most likely be produced at the Fremont factory, while Tesla’s larger-scale manufacturing layout will be implemented with the Optimus 4 at the Texas Gigafactory.
