Optimus robot

On September 25, 2023, Tesla released the latest development of its first humanoid robot, Optimus. The video released on Tesla’s official YouTube account shows that the robot can now autonomously sort objects of different colors through machine vision algorithms and joint positioning technology, and perform yoga poses, showing good balance ability, which may be a basic ability required for housework.

Optimus is 5 feet 8 inches tall (about 173 cm), weighs 125 pounds (about 56 kg), walks at a speed of 5 miles per hour (about 8 km/h), and can carry up to 45 pounds (about 20 kg) of objects. It also has a screen on its head for users to access useful information. The robot will use Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system and the same visual perception as cars, using camera input data for neural network computing.

Let’s take a look back at the evolution of Optimus. Optimus first appeared at Tesla’s AI Day event in August 2021. In October 2022, Tesla CEO Elon Musk officially introduced Optimus at Tesla’s AI Day. The robot has made significant progress since its first release in 2021.At Tesla’s shareholder meeting on May 16, 2023, Musk shared a new video of Optimus, showing the robot performing more complex tasks, such as walking, detecting new environments and remembering them, picking up, lifting, and putting down objects, etc.

In conclusion, we can definitely see that Optimus is constantly improving, and it is possible that it will be officially released and sold in the near future.

Musk has said that the initial goal of the Tesla robot is to replace humans in repetitive, boring, and dangerous tasks, but the long-term goal is to make it serve millions of households, such as cooking, mowing the lawn, and caring for the elderly. Musk predicts that the number of Optimus will far exceed that of Tesla cars, and the price will be cheaper than that of cars. Musk’s ambition is to hope that Optimus will enter every household in the future. Whether it is Optimus or not, the future is always worth looking forward to.
